Abstract

Corn is the first major food crop in China, which occupies an important position in the national economy. Insect pests are important factors affecting local corn production, among which corn borers, aphids and spider mites are the major pests that seriously threatening corn yield and quality. Most coccinellid ladybugs are natural enemies of insect pests. They mainly feed on small arthropods such as aphids, mealybugs, whiteflies, spider mites, and also eggs of lepidopteran pests such as corn borers, playing important roles in controlling agricultural and forestry pests. Clarifying local natural enemy resource status and their population dynamics is important in maintaining biodiversity in agro-ecosystems and guides developing appropriate pest management strategies. In the present study, coccinellidae resources in Gongzhuling, Jilin were surveyed and population dynamics of the dominant species, Harmonia axyridis, were monitored for three consecutive years. A large number of coccinellidae specimens were collected and made, and high-quality photos of the environment and natural enemies were taken. A data set of coccinellidae in the corn field of Gongzhuling City, Jilin Province was established. These data were highly frequently surveyed during a long timing, with stable sampling methods. They provided information for natural enemy resource conservation and utilization.
