Abstract:

High-quality agricultural datasets are fundamental resources that support the development of intelligent agricultural models, digital agriculture applications, and scientific decision-making. The effectiveness of their construction depends heavily on standardized data collection, professional annotation, and full-lifecycle data quality governance. Most existing agricultural datasets are built for specific model training and localized scenarios. They lack a systematic framework designed for complex agricultural environments, cross-source data interoperability, and sustained open reuse. This paper systematically reviews the core concepts and evaluation dimensions of high-quality agricultural datasets. It provides a focused overview of the current construction status of datasets related to agricultural computer vision and pest control, agricultural remote sensing and environmental resources, as well as agricultural textual knowledge and multimodal production management. The study first explains the foundational role and quality evaluation logic of high-quality datasets in subsequent agricultural artificial intelligence development and digital agriculture applications. It then analyzes the characteristics and limitations of existing agricultural datasets regarding requirement boundaries, sample representativeness, annotation reliability, metadata specifications, open sharing, and compliance governance. Finally, the paper outlines future construction directions from three dimensions encompassing task-driven design, full-lifecycle data quality governance, and sustainable open reuse. Future efforts need to prioritize real-world scenario coverage, data quality governance, the implementation of FAIR principles, and AI-ready representations. The study also suggests exploring optimization mechanisms for version management, application feedback, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. These insights aim to provide theoretical references and practical guidance for building a reliable and robust data supply system that meets the specific demands of agricultural scenarios.
